Walnut Hills offers a grand golf course, originally conceived in 1928 by architect Joseph Roseman Sr., a noted Chicago architect. Mr. Roseman considered the land with a unique strategic design typical of the classic courses of the 1920s. Our course was well planned into the current environment and is just the right amount of challenge and reward. Through bunker renovation his work redefined the classic style of the course.

Devries has brought the course into the modern era in 2004 with a great level of attention to detail. His work redefined the classic style of the course through bunker renovation that defends the strategy. Mike has built his work on the masters of the past. Devries is a historian of designs and writings of architecture of the great courses of the world. If you haven’t played the great courses of the world, then you’ll just have to trust us. Either way, we don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

The Best can never rest on their laurels! To offer you the type of course we promise, we have invested in the continued improvement of the golf course facility. The diligence and expertise of our course maintenance experts are what make the Walnut Hills course considered one of the finest parkland courses in Michigan.

A brief course perspective from Victor Whipp head golf professional.

Hole 1 is a beautiful elevated first tee. It is best played down the left side of the fairway to expand the roll. The approach is better short than right or left. The green has character that makes it important to be on line. Hole 7 is a mid-length par-three with a green that has ridge blocking the right side of the green and a great hole location. A bunker behind the green collects the run up shot that has too much run.

Hole 9

A long uphill par-four that plays longer than any hole on the golf course. The tee shot is played over Tenner's Ridge that may stop your forward progression. Your second shot must be carried over the false front of the green. An Augusta putt may find you back at the base of the hill below the green. Putting from behind the hole will not help you get that par.

Hole 15

Hole 15 is a strategic short par-five. The tee shot needs to threat two bunkers, ideally up the left-hand side. The green is well guarded with deep bunkers. The knob at the front right of the green defends the right-to-left sloping green. The closing stretch of holes is about strategy of the approach. Reaching the large greens is only the start of the play. All three are classic mid-length par-four's that ask for a solidly placed tee shot to combat the multi-sloped greens.
